Top Tips For Making Your Home More Exciting

Your home is your castle, and sometimes, even the grandest of castles need a little extra something to truly make them shine. If you’re starting to feel like your home is too drab or unexciting, then you’ll be happy to know there are plenty of things you can do about it, and you don’t need to break the bank, either.

From switching up your furniture to changing the colour scheme and lots of other handy hacks, here are our top tips for making your home that little bit more exciting!

Change up your colour scheme

One of the biggest changes you can make is to alter the colour scheme of your home. This will involve re-painting walls and perhaps changing wallpaper, but if you put in the effort, the result will have such a transformative effect that you might even wonder if you’re still in the same space!

Picking a colour scheme isn’t easy, but you can start by choosing colours you love and trying to coordinate them across the different rooms in your house. It’ll start to feel fun after a little while!

Add some custom furniture and fittings

Custom furniture and fittings make a home feel that much more unique to you, and they can solve a lot of storage or functionality problems you might have with your home as well. Look in unexpected places, too; changing your kitchen cabinets and installing custom-made or made-to-measure options, for instance, will give your kitchen a more personal feel and will also make it easier to find the things you need when it comes time to cook a delicious homemade meal.

Move things around

You’d be amazed at the effect just moving furniture around can have. Simply shifting a piece from one room to another can completely transform the look of that room, and you never know; you might just find the perfect home for a piece that’s never quite looked good no matter where you put it.

Start with smaller items of furniture, then move up to the big stuff if the room still doesn’t have the feel you want it to have. Before long, your rooms will have a new lease on life!

Add the personal touch

Your home will look better, both to you and to any guests you might have, if you add some personal touches. Try to display things in your home that remind you and your guests of the things you’ve done or seen throughout your life. Custom artwork or photography is always a good idea; if you’re an amateur photographer, then why not display some of your best pictures? If not, try and choose artwork or other adornments that say something about you.

Add lots of colourful flowers

One of the reasons that your home might not feel as exciting as you want it to is that you’re not displaying a sufficient range of colours. You can solve that problem with flowers; just display some vibrant, colourful flower arrangements around your house, and you’ve got yourself a shortcut to deeper and richer colour variation. This also has the added bonus of giving you something to care for, which can be a serious mental health boost on days when you’re struggling.

Get creative

You’ve almost certainly got a creative side; whether you’ve discovered it or not is another matter. Why not give creating something a go? Try making an ornament, perhaps, or even trying your hand at pottery or something similar. However the results go, you can display what you’ve made in a prominent place, which will show people that you’re trying to learn a new discipline. Doing so could go a long way towards adding the personal touch to your home and making it more exciting for visitors and yourself.

Have some fun

One of the best ways to add some excitement to your home is simply to make it a little funnier. Why not add a lightbox or a blackboard, for instance, and try writing a new fun message on it each day? Alternatively, add some funny framed photos or artwork with your favourite humorous aphorisms on them, or make your functional items, like handles and other accoutrements, more fun. This way, you’ll make your house just that little bit more entertaining to live in!

Get a pet

Everyone knows that pets add joy and excitement to a life. If you’ve got the room in your home and in your heart, then it’s definitely a good idea to let a pet into your house and let them fill your life up with happiness and excitement. Make sure to get the pet that best matches your personality; if you’re outgoing and if you’re home a lot, get yourself a dog (assuming you like dogs, of course), but if you’re not going to be around as much, a cat will be able to look after themselves much more independently. They still need love, though!

Do more exciting things at home

It stands to reason that if you want your home to be a more exciting place, then you should do more exciting things there. If you find yourself crashing on the couch and watching comfort shows or TV every day, try something new; pick a classic movie or an arthouse piece on Netflix that you’d never normally watch and give it a shot. If you allow your home to become fertile ground for artistic experimentation, then you’ll broaden your horizons and make your house feel more exciting into the bargain!
